Community & Belonging

Empowering to succeed.

ADVANCE Office has created programs that synergize with university values to foster an environment where all faculty members, regardless of background, feel valued and empowered to succeed. Through workshops, seminars, and resource-sharing, we provide tools to enhance cultural competency, and foster a sense of belonging.

If you or your trainee are considering applying for a faculty position, this workshop will help. Designed for postdocs and senior graduate students, FFW, covers key elements of searching and applying for faculty jobs, such as making your CV stand out during the interview process, honing time management skills and providing crucial insight on negotiating the job offer. The second day of the workshop is designed to provide helpful advice to jump start your faculty position once you land one.

STRIDE are virtual, senior faculty-led, evidence-based workshops that highlight possible sources of bias in the faculty search process and provide tactics to mitigate their impact. Newly developed workshops provide toolkits for fostering belonging to faculty leaders.

The Inclusive STEM Teaching Project (ISTP) is a six-week, asynchronous course designed to enhance the awareness, self-efficacy, and ability of instructors to cultivate inclusive learning environments. Participants will learn how to create classrooms that foster active learning and belonging. Join the concurrent Learning Community to enhance your learning and implementation of principles covered in the course.

The Women of Color in the Academy Conference (WOCIA) facilitates a more diverse academy by enhancing the timely career progression of not only faculty, but also postdoctoral scholars and graduate students. Attendees participate in a variety of interactive, hands-on workshops as well as network with other WOC throughout the Greater Boston region.
