Leadership

Supporting faculty leaders.

Our leadership programs cultivate the capacity of faculty to lead with impact—across disciplines, identities, and institutional structures. Whether supporting mid-career faculty in securing major research awards or preparing emerging leaders to navigate complexity and drive institutional change, our programs build supportive peer cohorts, demystify hidden norms, and connect faculty with experienced mentors.

EMPOWER

In collaboration with the Research Development Enterprise, the ADVANCE Office of Faculty Development created EMPOWER to support mid-career faculty in securing large, prestigious research and training grants. EMPOWER strengthens leadership capacity, builds cross-disciplinary networks, and fosters a supportive cohort environment. Through mentorship and community, participants gain access to the “hidden curriculum” of proposal development—critical know-how often inaccessible through formal training.

ReDI Leadership Program

Launched in 2012, the Research Leadership Development Initiative (ReDI) prepares associate and early full professors for academic leadership roles of broader institutional impact. ReDI brings together a diverse, cross-disciplinary cohort of faculty who demonstrate leadership potential. The program emphasizes leading across differences—including working styles, backgrounds, and disciplines—while helping participants build the skills and confidence needed to navigate complex academic environments.
