Program Description
STRIDE Workshops focus on the damaging effects of implicit bias in faculty recruitment and hiring searches, research on this topic that can positively impact search committees, and creative solutions for the mitigation of bias.
The Committee is a team of Northeastern senior faculty who aim to increase faculty diversity by leading interactive faculty discussions focused on understanding implicit biases in evaluation processes and offering good practices in the faculty search process. The workshops are open to all colleges on the Northeastern campus.
The STRIDE program supports inclusive excellence in faculty hiring by equipping search committee members with evidence-based strategies to recognize and mitigate the effects of implicit bias. Led by a committee of senior Northeastern faculty, STRIDE workshops foster interactive, research-informed conversations about how bias influences evaluation and decision-making—and how to counter it with intentional, effective practices. Open to all faculty and staff, STRIDE was launched in 2009 by the ADVANCE Office of Faculty Development and modeled after the nationally recognized program at the University of Michigan.
